A short plane ride to Temuco from Santiago, gets you to the northern reaches of Chile's "Lakes District." Pucon, known for the huge numbers of summer visitors, also attracts a large number of tourists during the winter season to ski on the majestic Volcano Villarrica.

Volcano Villarrica is the most active volcano in Chile. While the ski resort on Villarrica is small and somewhat limited, it offers the possibilities of summit attempts to view the active crater and get a long ski down.

The weather in the south of Chile can be very heavy during the winter, lots of rain and lots of snow. Even though many days can be spent in Pucon, waiting for the weather to clear, when the sun comes out it makes it all worth it. Pucon is one of the most beautiful places in all of South America. Clear, natural hotsprings and hikes to waterfalls are other great activities in the area.
